It appears that Businesses using PayPal are being targeted by the fraudsters. Because of PayPal’s LACK OF PROTECTION, YOU the small businessman will be the loser. Client comes in, you do the work, and give the product, and customer either uses a stolen card or claims they never received it.

Be Warned. I was losing $350 a month to these scamsters. The Police are NO help so it’s up to you. Anybody STUPID enough to use PayPal, should get used to money being yanked out of there account.

I Fired PayPal in March of 2008, PayPal contacts my company in June and states a credit card charge had been reversed because of a stolen credit card on January 6, 2008. Over 6 months and PayPal was after that money. Never notified us so we could settle the dispute. PayPal has turned out to be the SCUMIEST COMPANY I’ve ever delt with, similar to AOL of the 90’s.

The States Attorneys MUST be taking pay offs from PayPal JUST as they did with AOL. Google PayPal, millions of COMPLAINTS. I hired an Attorney and I’ll update you as I proceed against the 2000’s scumbag company PAYPAL.

Getting the Vista FREEZE? Black screen of Microsoft? Taking hours to uninstall programs?Looks like CA Anti Virus maybe the culprit. Started getting the Freeze of screen, very slow running etc. On a brand new Install with Vista Ultimate, the CA kept showing up as a possible suspect Different Blogs listed CA as running at the time of problem). It may not be exclusive to CA. Best Bet 1) Uninstall your anti virus and reboot 2) try the Control-Alt-Delete, If the screen goes to the option screen and not black you've fixed it.

I fired PayPal. I was advised to NEVER get involved with them but they were so easy, at first. Recently PayPal stopped a payment for over $350 dollars. Mossberg Misses the Mark

Over the holidays I read an older Tech raving about the Windows XPS. Mr. Mossberg could not have been more wrong. If the Monitor breaks, the entire PC must be replaced. If a Component fails, you’re at the mercy of Dell Parts. EVERYTHING in the XPS is proprietary, meaning you must order the part from Dell.
Power Supplies that normally run $40 now are $120 on up. Dell is not the only one. Sony’s Power Supplies run $140 for the same $40 dollar one. You must replace the Sony power pack with another Sony power pack.
Before you buy ask the sales clerk how much proprietary hardware is in the PC your thinking of buying. Anything proprietary will slow your PCs repair time by weeks, because the parts have to be shipped. Come in my shop with a HP or an E-machine, the parts are in stock…..

Evidently ALL Compaq & HP PCs are vulnerable to the Bricker Worm. http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9053818&source=NLT_PM&nlid=8 If I do a complete debugging, the first thing I remove is the HP updater. Experienced Techs have known for some time the vulnerability in HPs software. I’m surprised there printing software isn’t compromised, but bet it will be soon.
Bottom Line, get rid of ALL HP or Compaq software except the minimal things you need. The updater is not one, REMOVE it.

Shadow Backups over RAIDs

Shadowing a hard drive as a backup is preferable to RAIDs. The reason is a raid keeps an exact copy of the source drive. Something gets deleted; the RAID deletes the other volume. Shadow just adds data. Shadow does not delete data if the source gets deleted. With backups the more data the better.
I recommend a nice inexpensive program from NTI called Shadow. This simple program is designed for real time changes. I’ve gotten reports of the program shutting itself down. Check it; make sure the icon is showing. Test it, add a file to the source and see if it’s been copied to your backup.

If you want to Change from Microsoft Vista to Windows XP On a Gateway MX8711 Laptop with SATA Drive do the following:
Step One: Go to Intel to download the Intel Matrox 5.5.0.1035 SATA RAID Drivers, Run the utility and Write to Floppy ( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=1809&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go!)
Step Two: Install A USB Floppy On Your Laptop
Step Three: Install Windows XP pressing F6 to iniate the Raid Install using the Drivers from Intel
Step Four : Utilize the ONLY Mobil Driver
Step FIVE: Format the Drive or leave the Vista Files your choice because you have control over the SATA Drive.

Zune needs Help.....

Microsoft has made zune to only work with their Music Market Place. Normally any peripheral device connected to a Microsoft Operating system could be accessed through my computer or other various tools. Microsoft has made Zune to ONLY connect through there crappy software. Isn’t this ILLEGAL?? There software does NOT synch correctly and can take numerous tries to get ALL your music if it works at all. The Zune software will NOT allow you to buy a CD that replaced there market place software.
It took a cumulative 6 hours and numerous retries before Zune fully synched. The Physical Zune is good and I’m sure Microsoft will get the software right. Stay away from their Market Place They will continue to take your money, even if you only sign up for a month. Microsoft debited my account even though the music would not play. I canceled with 2-3 weeks left but Microsoft would NOT REFUND the cash.
Some Divisions of Microsoft operate much like AOL did before they “changed their business model”. It took AOL 10 years of ripping off their customers before they finally changed, maybe. Time Warner gets more unscrupulous every year. Microsoft’s Live & Zune operate much like the old AOL. I really don’t think Bill Gates will tolerate this and heads will eventually roll.
Microsoft is a great company, and has treated my company & I good. I still see the money men coming and cutting benefits & services. It’s a shame public companies are forced to do scummy things all for the almighty profit. I think Bill needs to get back in there. He’s a techie and understands us, and more importantly, increased education.

I feel bad, this is my neglected blog.

Using this product for over a month, and I've really grown attached to it. When I heard that it would remain free, I'm now thrilled. This is every bit as good as spybot. The browser controls are actually a little better. Because of Microsofts quality, I'd say this is a must install on your computer. Having cleaned my computer thourghly with Spybot, I downloaded, Installed, and ran it. Microsoft's found 2 additional obscure spyware registry entries. Not a big difference. http://spaces.msn.com/members/computerrepairstpete/ We'll be testing the 2 and hope to have a clear winner if possible. Microsof'ts GUI looks good, but from an IT stand point, Spybot has some important IT tweaks that I haven't found in Microsoft's.

Everyone should be familiar to the biggest time saver by microsoft the Event Viewer. Located in administrative tools in the control panel this little gem can be a big time saver. A client e-mailed with a screen shot of a specfic Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Noting the time I directed her to look at the event viewer for any events. Sure enough a Spyware was trying to connect with the internet, norton stopped a virus but also crashed the pc. After running spybot and removing several spywares, problem was solved. The Event view can give you an in depth look at problems and potential problems. The wise tech always looks toward the event viewer to start teching a pc.
